"AAUUGH!" Diamond screamed as his Turtwig fainted. Regole pretended to look at his fin in contempt. "HOW COULD I LOSE?!" Diamond howled. Sean nervously stepped up.
"H-hey, Diamond. You never attacked; all you did was growl Pongo." Diamond stopped pulling at his hair.
"You're right! I actually have to attack, don't I?" Sean nodded. Diamond slapped his forehead. "DUH! I am such a moron sometimes. Alright Sean, see ya! I'm going to show my Mom my new Pokemon!" Diamond dashed off, heading back to Twinleaf Town. Sean gazed at Pongo, who was busy staring out at Verity Lake.
"What's wrong?" Sean asks. Regole shook his head.
"Nothing. Why don't you show me your home?"
*An hour later...*
"...and this is my room!" Sean gestured to the room. Regole looked around, not too impressed.
"This is seriously it? This is all?" Sean looked away in silent embarrassment.
"Well... to put not too fine a point on it, yeah. We're a little poor, so we could barely afford this house. When I got to 'that' age, my mom gave me the top floor, and she sleeps on the couch." Regole waddled over to the small TV and GameStation.
"Wow you guys really are poor!" Regole exclaimed. "I mean come on! A GameStation One? This thing is an antique! You probably don't even have any games for it!" Sean narrowed his eyes at his impetuous starter Pokemon.
"I do so have several games for it! My mom didn't want me to have a childhood totally devoid of fun! I have Oryps the Dragon, Smash Thugicoot, and my personal favorite, Legend of Dragoon!" Regole swiveled his blue head to stare at Sean.
"Legend of Dragoon? What is that? A game about a bunch of goons?" Sean simply smiled.
"'You are free to sever the chains of fate that bind you'. That's a direct quote from the intro of the game. It taught me that nothing is certain, and gave me hope I could one day change all this." Sean gestured to his room. Regole seemed about to continue the argument when a call interrupted him from below.
"Sean! Regole! Diamond wants to see you!" Sean turned and shouted back down the brown stairs.
"Coming Mom!" Sean grinned uncertainly at Regole. "He probably wants another battle. Think you could handle him?" Regole looked offended.
"Are you joking me? I could destroy that Turtwig even if he didn't just spam growl all the time." Regole hopped down the stairs while Sean just shook his head and grinned.
Diamond was waiting outside when Sean and Regole popped out. "HEY!" Diamond cried, tackling Sean.
"WH-Whoa!" Sean cried as he nearly toppled over. It took him a second, but he realized Diamond was giving him a hug. "What was that for?!"
"I never properly thanked you! Had I never met you, I would've never gotten a Pokemon!” Sean rolled his eyes.
"Diamond, its Rowan you should thank. He’s the one who actually gave us the Pokemon." Diamond immediately let go.
"YOU’RE RIGHT!" He shouted. "What better way to do that than to get him a legendary Pokemon!" Sean sighed at Diamond’s exuberance.
"So you heard the legends about the spirit of the lake? You know that's where I was taking you before you dragged me into the tall grass?" Diamond grinned sheepishly.
"I guessed. Anyway, even if we don't find anything, it's worth it. We'll be training our Pokemon! Let’s go!" Sean nodded and then stooped down to Regole.
"You up for this?" Sean asked. Regole stared at him.
"A legendary Pokemon. Are you kidding?! This might even be a challenge." Sean smiled from ear to ear.
"Follow me then!" Sean started marching out of town, with Diamond and Regole following him. They certainly looked very strange, two boys and a single Pokemon between them. But this was Twinleaf Town, and anyone who did give them a second glance knew who they were, and simply smiled at the youths.
Sean led them through the green grass speckled with snow. The sky was blue, with the sun shining down onto them. Everything seemed bathed in a new light to Sean, with his new friends Regole and Diamond by his side. And as he marveled at this new discovery, he walked right through a gap in the wall of trees, following the well traversed path to the lake.
Diamond walked silently, hoping to catch a glance of the legendary Pokemon, when it occurred to him, he didn't even know what it looked like. He shrugged, figuring Sean would know, as he had lived here so much longer. Suddenly Diamond caught view of something, and dived to the ground. Sean glanced back, and saw him on the ground staring between the trees. Sean crouched next to him.
"What is it?" Sean asked in a hushed whisper. "Do you see the... the..." Diamond shook his head.
"No, but look there." Sean followed Diamonds gaze to see a middle-aged man. He had high prominent cheekbones, with icy cold blue eyes. His hair was an unearthly shade of blue, while he wore the strangest clothes; a suit, much like the astronauts wore into outer space. "He might interfere with us catching the legendary!" Sean heard a whisper on the wind and shushed Diamond. He listened closely, and could hear the man whispering.
"... Time... Space... It seems these are the things that make up our corporeal world..." The strange man turned his face to the lake, and his eyes disappeared from view. He held his hands behind his back, grasping them. "I will make it mine, and master it. I will use it to achieve my goal... My name is Cyrus. I know you're listening Mesprit, and mark my words: I will succeed." Diamond looked over to Sean and mouthed: who’s this idiot? to him. Cyrus turned around and caught the two of them in his icy cold glare. "So... you two overheard me. Not that it matters... If you'll excuse me, I must be going." Cyrus stalked towards them on silent feet before brushing past them. Diamond let out a massive sigh as Cyrus disappeared among the trees.
"Whew... that guy gave me the massive creeps Sean... and he seemed like a nutjob too." Sean shook his head.
"I don't know who he is, but it seemed like he was talking to someone. Anyway, let's forget about it! Do you have the Pokeballs ready?" Diamond's eyes widened.
"I thought you had some!" Diamond cried. Sean arched an eyebrow.
"Me? It was your idea!" Diamond laughed at his expression, and it wasn't long before Sean joined in too. When they were done, Diamond tried to look serious again.
"I'm going to see Professor Rowan. Maybe he can get me some Pokeballs." Diamond waved goodbye before dashing off. Sean smiled before noticing Regole was missing.
"Regole?" he called. Regole plodded out of the woods. "Where did you go?" Sean inquired. Regole quickly replied: "Nowhere. Let's go." Sean shrugged, and followed Regole back onto the trail. Only Regole saw the faint red glow from the lake as he took one last look back.
ZE PLOT THICKENS!!! In this chapter, something important is mentioned. It's the game Sean was going on about. It's an awesome game for the PS1, seriously, my second favorite game of all time. This story's central themes are going to revolve around the quote "You are free to sever the chains of fate that bind you", as well as some of the names of the Pokemon are going to be references.
If you like it here, as before, check it out on the Nuzlocke forums! I'd really appreciate it!
